The Bronstein Center for Healthy Aging and Wellness at the University of Southern Indiana

To help achieve greater well-being for older adults, we can start by growing a stronger, more capable workforce that understands the needs of seniors and is equipped to provide them with excellent care.

That's why the Bronstein Foundation gifted $1 million to the University of Southern Indiana (USI) — to bridge the ever-widening gap of quality care for seniors by expanding education in dementia care and advance care planning. With this gift, USI renamed its Center for Healthy Aging and Wellness within the College of Nursing and Health Professions to the Bronstein Center for Healthy Aging and Wellness, which is dedicated to advancing the understanding of aging and promoting the well-being of older adults through interdisciplinary education, research and engaged partnerships.

"We are grateful and honored to receive this leadership gift from the Sol and Arlene Bronstein Foundation," said Ronald S. Rochon, USI President. "It is fitting for our Center for Healthy Aging and Wellness to now include the Bronstein name as a representation of our partnership in expanding programs of excellence in dementia care and advance care planning. This gift will have a significant impact on our students, faculty health care professionals and members of our community."

The expanded program includes innovative practices, including the study and advancement of AI to help older citizens maintain their independence. The program also includes the sponsorship of Bronstein Keynote Speakers at the Mid-America Institute on Aging and Wellness (MAIA), an annual conference held at USI to provide practical tools and groundbreaking insights on best practices in successful aging and wellness. Additionally, the program supports The Bronstein Award, which funds faculty research and creative work in dementia care or advance care planning.

"The Bronstein funding allows us to expand programs of excellence in dementia care and advance care planning education through initiatives engaging USI students, USI faculty, regional health care professionals and community members," says Dr. Katie Ehlman, Professor of Gerontology and Director of the Bronstein Center for Healthy Aging and Wellness. "It is an honor for USI and the Center to continue work in the areas important to Sol and Arlene Bronstein."
