SWIRCA & More
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, more than 10,000 Americans turn 65 every day.
As this population continues to grow, we must expand our efforts to connect in new and relevant ways and discover opportunities to enhance seniors' lives. For over 50 years, the Southwestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging (SWIRCA & More) has served the most vulnerable in our community by providing essential support to help keep seniors and those living with disabilities nourished and healthy so they may age independently at home.
The Bronstein Foundation provided a lead gift in support of SWIRCA & More's Building Engagement Capital Campaign, which seeks to expand existing services and incorporate new programming, increase accessibility and safety, break down stigmas and offer non-judgmental, age-friendly spaces. According to Rhonda Zuber, Director of SWIRCA & More, "The Bronstein Foundation has been a cornerstone of our capital campaign, allowing us the opportunity to expand, evolve and continue to empower local seniors to remain active within their communities. One way to keep seniors engaged is through continuing education opportunities. Seniors have the time and willingness to learn, and this gift makes it possible for so many in our community."
SWIRCA & More's expanded program includes a variety of educational opportunities, including computer classes designed to help seniors stay on top of new technologies that allow them to communicate with their peers, families and especially their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. These hands-on learning opportunities also encourage seniors to build relationships while learning new skills.
The Bronstein Foundation, in partnership with SWIRCA & More, also sponsors a monthly Lunch, Learn, and Share event at the Evansville Wartime Museum, a museum that highlights our region's significant impact on the outcome of World War II. "As we get older, so many of our memories fade with time. The Lunch, Learn, and Share event is a way to connect with our seniors, allow them to see, touch and experience their history in real and tangible ways help them make connections to their past. It has been such a privilege to hear their amazing stories," stated Zuber.
