Ivy Tech University
The demand for skilled healthcare workers — especially nurses — continues to be of growing concern in our nation and especially our region.
According to data from Ivy Tech University, as of July 2022, there were about 4,300 nursing openings in Indiana — and the federal government estimates that an additional 275,000 nurses will need to join the workforce by 2030 to prevent a significant shortfall. The Bronstein Foundation has partnered with Ivy Tech University to help minimize the impact on our local healthcare system and ultimately, on the seniors who need skilled care, by providing a $500,000 gift to help expand Ivy Tech's health sciences and nursing programs and provide scholarships to promising candidates in the health professions.
Knowing that 90% of Ivy Tech nursing graduates stay in Indiana to live and work, this partnership strives to make a significant impact on quality of care for aging adults, right here at home, with the added benefit of providing opportunities for those in our community seeking a fulfilling career.
This partnership will allow for the expansion of Ivy Tech's Health Sciences and Nursing programs through professional development opportunities and salary gap funding for full-time or adjunct nursing faculty, investment in the latest lab equipment, simulators and training equipment and through the provision of scholarships to students who demonstrate a desire to work in the healthcare industry.
In addition to merit and need-based scholarships, this gift also includes the Sol & Arlene Bronstein Helping Hands for Student Achievement Fund, which provides wraparound support for students in need of supplemental assistance including housing, food and clothing, transportation, childcare, low-cost medical care, emergency funds, technology access and more.
Celia Shoulders, Executive Director of Resource Development at Ivy Tech Evansville said, "The investment by the Sol & Arlene Bronstein Foundation will have a long-term impact on services supporting our senior and elderly population, including workforce and economic gains, right here in Southern Indiana."
